LHSCA Coaches Convention Heads to Shreveport-Bossier in 2018 And 2020
BATON ROUGE, LA (May 10, 2017) - In 2018 and 2020, Shreveport-Bossier will host the Louisiana High School Coaches Association (LHSCA) Coaches Convention.
For the past thirty years, Baton Rouge has been home for the annual convention, but in an effort to move the association's flagship event throughout the state, the LHSCA Executive Council and Director, Terence Williams, approved of an official bidding process for the convention's host venue. Along with the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, finalists included the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission and the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville.
With a new location comes a new time for the convention. The traditionally mid-July date will switch to the beginning of June.
"The change in venue and bringing the convention to the beginning of summer, will allow coaches, administrators and athletic directors to enjoy a larger venue and different scenery, while giving North Louisiana a chance to showcase its unique charm", said Terence Williams. "The switch to June will also be advantageous to coaches for their athletic and personal summer schedules. We hope the change to a larger facility will allow us to expand our focus of coach's education with the addition of speaker sessions. We are excited to partner with the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission as we refresh the scope of our convention."
Kelly Wells, Executive Director of the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, said "On behalf of the Shreveport-Bossier Community, we are thrilled to partner with the LHSCA to host the 2018 and 2020 Annual Coaches Convention. The Shreveport Convention Center will provide the opportunity for all the convention's clinics and meetings to take place under one roof and the Hilton Shreveport and hotel partners will provide great accommodations and a great value for each coach that attends. The appeal of the host city is the location, which sits in the heart of downtown. Attractions such as the Louisiana Boardwalk and the convenience of traveling throughout the city will add to a pleasurable experience for the coaches, exhibitors and speakers."
The 2018 convention will take place June 4-6.
